Windows

I've been stalking this fabric (it's a raw silk) at Hobby Lobby for probably a year. I know, a year, just BUY it already right? I can't bring myself to pay full price for something that we probably won't take with us the next time we move. - BUT - My patience paid off...they finally put it on sale for HALF PRICE!!!! Yahoo!

Now I will attempt to make window treatments for our kitchen.

Maid Service

Catherine made our bed last week. She left this poem on our pillow...

Translation:
Roses are red, violets are blue
I will always love you
Do not touch the bed

Fried Onion Strings

I made these last weekend. - YUM!!!

I used The Pioneer Woman's recipe (link below). It is right on! You will never buy onion rings at a restaurant again. - Unless you don't want to stink up your house with the smell of grease. That being said - I'm thinking about getting a fryer machine. Then I can just take it outside. We've tried frying things on a gas burner (the one we use to fry turkeys) but it's not very easy to control the temperature.

Things that go "thump" in the night...

So, me and my youngest were sitting in the dark on the patio this past weekend. We had just built a little fire in the chiminea. Amongst the crackle of the flame, the hum of the traffic and the plinking of our neighbor playing the piano - I heard a rustle of the leaves in the tree behind us. I didn't think too much of it. Then Catherine said - "Oh look, something is in the tree. It's staring at us".

It was a 'possum!!!!
This is the best shot I could get considering it was in the dark.

He's back...

Our "resident chipmunk" has returned.
He disappeared for a little while. He lives under our walkway.

Moonwalk

This was part of Grace's (8) homework. I had to help her with number 2. I thought her pick for number 4 was cute. - Cautiously optimistic.

Refried Bean Soup

We had a bit of chilly weather last week so I made this soup. I've been making it for about 10 years. I found the recipe in a Southern Living cookbook.

Here it goes...

1 small onion chopped
2 cloves of minced garlic
1 (31-ounce) can of refried beans
1 (16-ounce) can of diced tomatoes
1 (10-ounce) can of diced tomatoes w/ green chiles
1 can of chicken broth
Cut up and cook the onions and garlic. Then add the other ingredients. Bring to a boil and reduce. I usually top my soup w/ Monterrey Jack or mozzarella cheese and eat it with tortilla chips.
