Feed My Starving Children

Blessed are those who are generous,
because they feed the poor.
- Proverbs 22:9

Last week I accompanied the Brownies on a trip to the local packing site for Feed My Starving Children. The organization's mission can be best described right off their web site...

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's starving children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals formulated specially for starving children and we ship the meals to nearly 70 countries around the world. - http://www.fmsc.org/

There are four food components to every package.
Rice, soy, vitamins and dehydrated vegetables.

One bag of food, provides meals to six children.
It costs $1.15 to produce one bag.
94% of all donations to FMSC go directly toward the food program.

Here's what packaging room looked like.

What you don't know...we weren't just packing food...
We were jamming out!!!
Radio blasting...lots of fun!
After the work is done...you watch a video and get to sample the food.

Two hours work =

Unfortunately for my Southern friends, the packing sites are located in the Midwest BUT they do have a MobilePack program. If you feel led to participate in this project, check their site to see if a packing event is happening near you OR rally the troops and MAKE IT HAPPEN - host an event or simply make donation.
Check it out...

  1. I've volunteered there before once with my mom's work. It is very cool! It was interesting that they had to develop the special food because people were so unused to regular food that they couldn't even digest it!
